AntiquiteOil on canvas: Winter time by Henri de Favanne. Henri de Favanne was born on October 3rd 1668, of French parents living in London. His father Antoine was Master of Royal Hunt of King Charles II. He arrived in Paris in 1687, became student of René Antoine Houasse. Later he moved to Rome where he became a friend of Monsieur d’Aubigny, secretary of princess des Ursins. In 1704, he is admitted to the Academy,Ê thenÊ from 1706 to 1713, we find him in Spain where he works for the Princess des Ursins circle. Finally, he moves back to France where he starts the decoration of Château de Chanteloup. He becomes a teacher of the Academy in 1725 then Vice Director in 1748. He attends exhibitions from 1737 to 1752. He passed away in Paris on April 27th 1752.

The fashion for foliage mixed with floral garlands and vases appears in many private Parisian houses around this time. The designs harmoniously blend iconography and symbolism: floral garlands, bouquets, scrolling foliage, and palm fronds surround central medallionds illustrating scenes.

AntiquitePair of chairs "à la montgolfière" (which means hot-air balloon due to its shape) by Jean-Baptiste Demay. Painted beech wood. This new design was introduced following the successful and striking take off of the hot air balloon driven by the Montgolfier brothers on September 19th 1783. The event influenced the design not only of chairs but also of clocks, jewels and all kinds of furniture decoration.

One is fitting the famous King desk in Versailles produced by Oeben and Riesener. The second used to belong to the Sigismond de Bardac collection sold to the G. Petit gallery in Paris in 1920.

Two lateral swivel drawers. It stands on four tapered legs decorated with saw tooth chased plates on three sides and fitted with ormolu bronze sabots with casters. Fluted leg tops with grotesque masks. The table belt is decorated with a saw tooth chased gilt bronze frame and the brèche du Languedoc marble top is surrounded by an ormolu bronze cornice.
