| Those paintings on étoffe de lin (linen), are fine example of the arabesque style, a design which became increasingly popular in the decorative arts during the 1780s. The fashion for foliage mixed with floral garlands and vases appears in many private Parisian houses around this time. The designs harmoniously blend iconography and symbolism: floral garlands, bouquets, scrolling foliage, and palm fronds surround central medallionds illustrating scenes. Height : 74.8 in Breadth : 61.02 in Period : Louis XVI. Circa 1780 Good preservation of both the linen and the painting. |
